CEOs of Discord, Snap, and X Subpoenaed for Child Exploitation Hearing

Senate Judiciary Committee investigates the role of social media companies

The Senate Judiciary Committee announced on Monday that the CEOs of Discord, Snap, and X, formerly known as Twitter, had been subpoenaed to testify at a December 6 hearing on online child sexual exploitation.

Apparently, Discord and X had previously refused to accept the subpoenas on behalf of their CEOs, forcing the committee “to enlist the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service to personally serve the subpoenas,” the committee stated. Snap’s CEO voluntarily agreed to testify before the subpoenas were issued.

“Big Tech’s failure to police itself at the expense of our kids cannot go unanswered,” said Senators Dick Durbin of Illinois, the committee chair, and Lindsay Graham of South Carolina, the committee’s ranking member, in a joint statement. “Hearing from the CEOs of some of the world’s largest social media companies will help inform the Committee’s efforts to address the crisis of online child sexual exploitation.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the Senate Judiciary Committee as they hear testimony from the tech CEOs regarding child exploitation.
  • For discernment for Senator Durbin as he chairs the committee.
  • For U.S. parents to be vigilant regarding their children’s use of social platforms.
